bacher-ai.com is a personal AI and digital-privacy project run under the tagline “Exploring AI that respects your data.” It pairs practical writing on AI — what’s actually being built, what it’s useful for, and what it means for people who care where their data goes — with a real, largely self-hosted platform running behind the scenes. The short version: practical AI, privacy first.
Content revolves around four recurring themes: AI tools and models, digital privacy, updates from the self-hosted platform itself, and resources or guides for running capable AI outside the mainstream cloud ecosystem.
The Stack
The platform is built from self-hosted and carefully vetted infrastructure. Where third-party services are used, they’re chosen specifically for confirmed privacy practices — no training on user data, no retention beyond operational needs.
- Open WebUI — the unified interface for interacting with both local and remote AI models
- Ollama — runs open-weight models locally, keeping inference fully on-device
- LiteLLM — a unified API layer that routes requests across models while keeping control local
- Venice.ai — privacy-respecting inference with a confirmed no-training, no-retention policy
- OpenRouter — access to a broad range of commercial models, used selectively where privacy terms hold up
- n8n — self-hosted workflow automation connecting tools, triggers, and the pipelines behind much of what gets built and published
- LiveKit — self-hosted real-time voice infrastructure powering the platform’s AI voice agents, currently in beta
The whole project is non-commercial and for personal use only — platform access is currently limited to contributors and friends, though the blog itself is open to everyone.
